1. Raj purchases oranges at Rs. 20 per dozen and sels them at Rs. 10 for every 5 oranges. What is the profit percentage? (numerical value)
[a] 25% of 100  20% of 50
[b] 16(2/3)% of 300 - 14(2/7)% of 210
[c] 30% of 210 - 40% of 120
[d] 50% of 150 - 25% of 120
[e] None of these

12 oranges = Rs. 20 --- CP
05 oranges = Rs. 10 --- SP
Cross Multiply
12 oranges = Rs. 20 ---> 100
05 oranges = Rs. 10 ---> 120
20/100 x 100 = 20%

Option [b] 16(2/3)% of 300 - 14(2/7)% of 210
50 - 30 = 20

2. On selling 18 books a shopkeeper earns a profit equal to the cost price of 3 books. What will be his profit percent?
[a] 10% of 432 - 20% of 121
[b] 20% of 750 - 35% of 200
[c] 16(2/3)% of 600 - 33(1/3)% of 250
[d] 14(2/3)% of 560 - 12.5% of 240
[e] None of these

SP of 18 books = CP of 21 books
Profit Percentage = 3/18 * 100
= 50/3

Option
[c] 16(2/3)% of 600 - 33(1/3)% of 25
100 - 250/3
= 50/3

3. If profit earned by a shopkeeper is equal to the selling price of 4 articles while selling 12 articles, then find his profit percent.
[a] 75% of 200 - 33(1/3)% of 300
[b] 26% of 1300  256
[c] 20% of 300 - 10% of 500
[d] 25% of 120 - 30% of 90
[e] None of these

Profit earned = 4 articles
SP = 12 articles
CP = 12 - 4 = 8 articles
Profit percent = 4/8*100 = 50%

Option
[a] 75% of 200 - 33(1/3)% of 300
150 - 100 = 50

4. On selling 9 chocolates for Rs. 100 a shopkeeper gets a loss of 20%. How many chocolates he should sell for Rs. 100 to earn a profit of 20%?
[a] 45 + 68 - 72
[b] 32 + 61 - 45
[c] 64 + 32 - 18 x 5
[d] 36 - 85 + 92
[e] None of these

Sells 9 Chocolates for Rs. 100
on 20% loss = 100/9 x 80
to make 20% profit by selling for Rs. 100
100/9 x 120/80 = 100/6
for 20% profit sell 6 chocolates for Rs. 100

Option
[c] 64 + 32 - 18 x 5
96 - 90 = 6

5. On selling 15 articles for Rs. 50 a shopkeeper earns a profit of 20%. How many articles he had sold for Rs. 50 if he gets a loss of 25%.
[a] 25^2 - 24x25
[b] 22^2 - 23x20
[c] 27x23 - 45x630
[d] CND
[e] None of these

Sells 15 articles for Rs. 50
on 20% profit = 50/15 x 120
to make 25% loss by selling for Rs. 50
50/15 x 75/120 = 50/24
for 25% loss sell 24 articles for Rs. 50

Option
[b] 22^2 - 23x20
484 - 460 = 24

6. A sells a phone to B at a loss of 20% who sells it to C at a profit of 25%. After finding some defect C return it back to B but could only recover Rs. 4.50 for every Rs. 5 he had paid. Find the amount of C's loss if A has paid Rs. 87500 for the phone?
[a] Rs. 8750
[b] Rs. 8570
[c] Rs. 8650
[d] Rs. 9620
[e] None of these

CP of A = 100
SP of A = 80
CP of B = 80
SP of B = 25% of 80 = 20 + 80 = 100
CP of C = 100
Loss by C = 0.5/5 x 100 = 10%
Then SP with 10% loss = 90
If A paid 100 then C lost 10%
If A paid 87500 for phone then C loss = 87500/100 x 10 = 8750

7. The selling price of an article A is Rs. 1120. The cost price of another article B is 20% more than the cost price of article A. If the profit % on article A and Article B is 40% and 35% respectively, then find the selling price of article B?
[a] Rs. 1296
[b] Rs. 1269
[c] Rs. 1280
[d] Rs. 1330
[e] None of these

A's CP = 100 and B's CP = 120
A's SP = 140 and B's SP = 162
(40% and 35% respectively)

If A SP 140 then SP = 1120
Find B's SP = 1120/140 x 162 = 1296

8. The profit percent on three articles A,B and C are 10%, 20% and 25% and the ratio of the cost price is 1:2:3. Also the ratio of the number of articles sold of A, B and C is 2:5:2, then the overall profit percentage is:
[a] 16%
[b] 18.5%
[c] 21%
[d] 25%
[e] None of these

Let CP of A, B and C = 100 : 200 : 400
Ratio of Number of articles sold of 2 : 5 : 2
100 x 2 : 200 x 5 : 2 x 400
200 : 1000 : 800
profit percent on three articles = 10%, 20% and 25%
20 : 200 : 200 = 420 profit over CP 2000
420/2000 x 100 = 21%

9. The ratio of number of books and number of pens sold by a shopkeeper is 5:3 respectively. If the price of 6 pens is Rs. 270 and the price of a book is 60% more than the price of a pen. If the total revenue earned by the shopkeeper is Rs. 2475 find the number of books sold by shopkeeper.
[a] 23
[b] 25
[c] 24
[d] 28
[e] 22

Book : Pen = 5 : 3
Price of 1 pen = 270/6 = 45
Price of book is 60% more than pen = 45 x 60% = 27 + 45 = 72
Cost of Book = 72 x 5 = 360
Cost of Pen = 45 x 3 = 135
Total Revenue = 360 + 135 = 495
Actual revenue earned = 2475/495 = 5
Number of Books sold by shopkeeper = 5 x 5 = 25
and Pen = 5 . 3 = 15

10. Two shopkeepers earns 25% and 20% of profit on selling the same watch but the first shopkeeper calculates his profit percent on selling price whereas the second did it on cost price. Find the ratio between the selling price of both the shopkeeper.
[a] 10 : 9
[b] 9 : 10
[c] 9 : 8
[d] 8 : 9

1st SK 25% = 1/4 then CP = 3, Profit = 1, SP = 4
IInd SK 20% = 1/5 then CP = 5, Profit = 1, SP = 6

Equal the CP multiply 1st with 5 and IInd with 3
CP = 3 x 5 = 15, Profit = 1 x 5= 5, SP = 4 x 5 = 20
CP = 5 x 3 = 15, Profit = 1 x 3= 3, SP = 6 x 3 = 18

Ration of SP = 20:18
i.e. 10:9
